These are uneasy times for everyone. The B.C. economy is certainly having its' ups and downs. Many people are out of work; some are contemplating jobs out of the province, others have opted for self-employment. A word of caution on both of these options. Should you be considering going on your own, be sure to get lots of advise from all possible sources. Financing through banks for self-employed people is virtually non existent. Self-employment requires discipline and is not easy, however, it can be very rewarding. Networking with others can be very helpful.

If you are considering a move to find work, and you decide to rent your home, you should exercise extreme caution. We have seen many properties nearly "destroyed" by tenants. There are some steps you can take to protect yourself, but no guarantees! The main thing in renting is to insure your potential tenant is and has been employed and has some job stability. Secondly, make sure you check with previous landlords to find out how they paid and in what condition they left the last home. Visit them at their existing dwelling if you are able to.
